The Danish Energy Agency approved a lifetime extension for the 40 MW Middelgrunden offshore wind farm on 27 June 2025, allowing the project located 3.5 km off Copenhagen and co-owned by HOFOR and Middelgrundens Vindmøllelaug to continue operating for an additional 25 years beyond its original 2000 production permit. The decision followed independent assessments of remaining service life and introduced requirements for more extensive annual inspections, ensuring the 20‑turbine community wind farm can safely produce green electricity for around 20,000 households for decades longer than initially planned.
