The Norwegian Water Resources & Energy Directorate (NVE) granted an expanded concession and new test concessions for the METCentre offshore Karmøy, licensing four new test slots and enabling the installation of five additional floating offshore wind turbines so that up to seven turbines can be tested in total at the site, alongside two bottom-fixed units. This approval, reported in 2022 and described as final approval in December 2023, underpins the METCentre Expansion project and supports development of new floating wind technologies, with associated grid and subsea infrastructure scheduled to be ready for use from 2026.
