Terna Spa Rete Elettrica Nazionale awarded Prysmian Group a €300 million turnkey contract for the Messina II extra‑high‑voltage submarine and land cable interconnection between Sicily and the Italian mainland. The scope covers engineering, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of two 380 kV AC cable circuits totalling over 260 km of cable, including approximately 38 km of submarine route across the Strait of Messina and 5.4 km on land between the Villafranca Tirrena (Sicily) and Scilla (Calabria) substations, providing up to 2,000 MW of transfer capacity and strengthening the Italian national grid.
