In September 2011, Terna began offshore installation of the first of six submarine cables for the Sorgente–Rizziconi interconnector between Sicily and Calabria, using the large cable‑laying vessel Giulio/Jules Verne operating off Villafranca, marking the start of the subsea cable installation phase for the project.
