DELAYED +2yr (May 2026): Prior projection assumed cable installation could start by end-2026, but Mar 2026 UK–Ireland summit statement confirms MaresConnect and EirGrid are still working to identify an optimal grid connection solution in North Dublin (pre-construction dependency). A MARA Maritime Usage Licence application support report (rev 17 Jun 2024) indicates overall construction scheduled to commence in 2027 (not 2026). Given onshore construction likely not starting until 2027 and this is still early development, pushing offshore cable installation start to 2028 as a more realistic start-of-installation year. DELAYED +11mo (Apr 2026): The cable installation start date of 1 January 2026 is past with no evidence of MaresConnect entering construction. A Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners article from November 2025 states that construction is planned to begin at the end of 2026, with commercial operations expected by 2029. This newer developer timeline replaces earlier 2026-start assumptions, so the cable installation start is delayed to late 2026 (December 2026), treated as approximate to the month. --- MaresConnect plans to start construction of the interconnector in 2026, including installation of the HVDC cables and associated converter station works between Ireland and Wales, following earlier development and planning phases.
