In 1957, as part of a government plan to supply Gozo from the Malta Power Station, two submarine power cables were installed, including one between Marfa on Malta and Comino, and another from Comino to Gozo. These subsea cables were laid on the seabed to interconnect the islands and were subsequently commissioned in 1958.
