Detailed Marine Route Survey (DMRS) along the planned IC2 cable corridor between Malta and Sicily was completed in November 2025 by Next Geosolutions (NextGeo) using a specialised survey vessel deployed on 21 September 2025. The survey refined the 99 km submarine route, confirming seabed conditions and de-risking burial and protection strategies for the 220 kV three-core HVAC cable. Per InterConnect Malta's official project timeline: "November - Detailed marine route survey completed". Identification & Clearance (ID&C) of magnetic targets along the corridor began in March 2026 as a follow-on campaign.
