In early May 2017, Enemalta began installing two new XLPE‑insulated 33 kV underground cable connections, totalling about 10 kilometres, between the Mellieħa Distribution Centre and the Vendôme Distribution Centre at Armier Bay to upgrade the electricity supply route feeding the submarine cables to Gozo and Comino. This cable‑laying project, part of a €1.6 million investment to replace existing overhead 33 kV lines and pylons across Mellieħa, aims to improve the reliability and security of the network supplying the island of Gozo and reduce the visual and weather‑related risks associated with overhead infrastructure.
