Enemalta stated in May and July 2017 that 10 km of new 33 kV underground cables between Mellieħa and the Vendôme Distribution Centre would be laid in phases, with trenching and cable laying along Triq Louis Wettinger (Mellieħa Bypass) completed by September 2017 and the final excavation and cable laying works for the Mellieħa–Vendôme route expected to be ready in autumn 2017. No later revisions or delays were reported, and the works were described as a short-term road project finishing in September, consistent with completion of cable installation by autumn 2017.
