132 kV HVAC three-core submarine and land power cable system linking Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) and La Oliva (Fuerteventura), comprising a ~14.5 km subsea route and ~2.4 km underground route.
Prysmian Group was awarded a turnkey contract by Red Eléctrica de España to design, supply, install and commission the 132 kV HVAC three-core submarine and land power cable system for the Lanzarote–Fuerteventura interconnector. The scope covered the full cable system between the Playa Blanca substation on Lanzarote and the La Oliva substation on Fuerteventura, including approximately 14.5 km of subsea cable and about 2.4 km of underground land cables on both islands. Submarine and land cables were manufactured at Prysmian’s Arco Felice (Italy) and Vilanova (Spain) plants and installed using one of the company’s dedicated cable-laying vessels. The contract, valued at around €27 million, formed part of Red Eléctrica’s programme to reinforce the Canary Islands’ transmission grid and was scheduled for delivery and commissioning in 2021.
