On 30 March 2023, TenneT awarded a GE Vernova / McDermott consortium the framework contract for the BalWin4 and LanWin1 2 GW HVDC offshore grid connections in the German North Sea. Per the GE Vernova press release, the contracts "are expected to come into effect in April 2023". GE Vernova Grid Solutions is consortium lead responsible for HVDC converter station design, manufacture and commissioning (offshore and onshore), while McDermott is responsible for EPCI of the offshore converter platforms. Combined consortium contract value approximately EUR 4 billion. The award is a firm supplier selection for LanWin1's converter technology under TenneT's 2 GW standardised programme.
