On 6 August 2009, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, in agreement with the Ministry of Environment and Protection of Land and Sea, approved the final design and granted authorisation for the construction and operation of two 132 kV cable lines developed by Terna S.p.A., including the "Sacca Serenella Cabina Primaria – Cavallino Cabina Primaria" link in the municipalities of Venice and Cavallino-Treporti. The decree conferred planning consent with declaration of public utility, urgency, and inamovability for the works as part of the national transmission network development plan to improve the security and reliability of electricity supply to the Venice lagoon area.
