The Kentish Flats offshore wind farm and its 33kV export cable system entered full commercial operation in September 2005. After construction from August 2004 to the end of August 2005, the wind farm began operating, exporting power via buried subsea export cables making landfall at Hampton Pier, Herne Bay, then running approximately 2.5km inland to an existing substation at Herne Bay where the electricity is fed into the National Grid distribution network.
