150 kV XLPE HVAC submarine and underground cable system between Kefalonia and Zakynthos with a total route length of about 20.4 km, forming part of the Ionian Islands interconnection upgrade.
Hellenic Cables, the cables segment of Cenergy Holdings, was awarded a turnkey contract by Greece’s Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) to design, manufacture and install 150 kV XLPE submarine and underground power cables for the upgrade of the Kefalonia–Zakynthos and Lefkada–Kefalonia interconnections in the Ionian Sea. For the Kefalonia–Zakynthos leg, the company is responsible for delivering approximately 20.4 km of new 150 kV HVAC cable, including associated landfalls, to replace the ageing link that has been in operation for decades. The scope covers detailed cable system engineering, production of submarine cables at Hellenic Cables’ Corinth facility, manufacture of onshore sections at its Thiva plant, and turnkey offshore and onshore installation, jointing and testing. The contract, valued at about €99.8 million plus VAT for the combined Ionian Islands scheme, was signed in late October 2024 and announced in early November 2024, with completion expected by 2026.
