In 1971, onshore construction works for the new AC electricity connection to Mandø began, with a small excavator trenching across the island and pulling an electric cable with service branches to individual properties and houses, as part of the replacement of the island’s worn-out local DC power plant with supply via a cable from the mainland. The works took place on Mandø through the summer and autumn, accompanied by wider construction activity in the Wadden Sea and on the island.
