Toshiba supplied suspended thyristor valve equipment for the MONITA Italy–Montenegro HVDC interconnector, providing the high-voltage DC converter valves for the ±500 kV line-commutated converter (LCC) system that links Terna’s grid in Italy with the Montenegrin grid. The scope covered manufacture of the HVDC power electronics used in the onshore converter stations at Villanova and Lastva, enabling long‑distance high‑capacity transmission between the two countries. The project was executed while the link was under construction and formed part of Terna’s broader programme to interconnect the Italian and Montenegrin transmission systems.
