Following evaluation of potential sites for the Hywind Scotland Pilot Park beginning in 2009, two Scottish locations were assessed: an area in The Minch off Stornoway and the Buchan Deep off Peterhead. Early feedback from conservation bodies that Buchan Deep was further offshore with lower environmental sensitivity, combined with better availability of grid connections, led to the Buchan Deep site being selected as the preferred development location for the project.
