The electricity collected from the turbines at the offshore Alpha substation will be transferred via 2 220-kV cables with each a power capacity of 350 MW to an onshore high-voltage station at the Maasvlakte 2 area in Rotterdam, a 42-km route section.
Hellenic Cables, as part of a consortium with Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects, was awarded a contract by offshore grid operator TenneT for the Hollandse Kust (zuid) Alpha grid connection. Under this contract the consortium was responsible for the design, manufacturing and installation of the 220 kV subsea and onshore export cables and the onshore connection along the approximately 42 km route between the Hollandse Kust (zuid) Alpha offshore substation and the Maasvlakte 2 high-voltage substation near Rotterdam. In its role as cable manufacturer, Hellenic Cables designed and produced the high‑voltage AC sea and land cables for the two 220 kV circuits, each rated at 350 MW, supporting the 700 MW Alpha grid connection that brings power from the Hollandse Kust Zuid I & II wind farms into the Dutch onshore grid. Cable installation and onshore civil works were executed by the consortium partner.
