In its 2005 Environmental Statement, npower renewables stated that construction of the Gwynt y Môr project was anticipated to commence during 2008, with up to two years allocated for onshore works, including building the onshore substation that steps up power from 132–245 kV to 400 kV and installing the underground onshore transmission cables from the landfall to the substation south of St Asaph Business Park.
