HVDC Gotland 2 monopole submarine cable between Västervik (mainland Sweden) and Ygne (Gotland), 150 kV, 130 MW, constructed in 1983 as an additional link in the Gotland HVDC scheme, supplied as part of NKT’s turnkey HVDC submarine cable system with additions in the 1980s.
NKT, through its high-voltage cable business, provided a turnkey HVDC submarine cable system between Västervik on the Swedish mainland and Ygne on Gotland for client Vattenfall. The scope covered design and engineering, manufacturing, testing, cable-laying and installation of the mass-impregnated HVDC cable system that connects the island to the mainland. The project was originally implemented in 1953–1954 and later expanded with additional HVDC links in the 1980s, when the scheme was developed from the original 100 kV, 20 MW configuration to a 150 kV system with a total capacity of about 260 MW, including the second Gotland link commissioned in 1983 (Gotland 2).
