Cable installation for the Gjøa electrification link between StatoilHydro’s Gjøa platform in the North Sea and the Mongstad power plant near Bergen effectively started in 2009, with ABB holding a NOK 500m contract to manufacture and install the 100km subsea power cable, the vessel North Ocean 102 preparing in February 2009 to lay the first cable from Mongstad to Gjøa, and by May 2009 Global Marine Systems working for ABB on the in‑progress Gjøa cable project using chartered cable‑lay vessels and targeting completion by Q2 2010.
