In 2016, the current general plan for the Hailuoto road access was completed, defining the present Hailuoto causeway scheme of an approximately 8.4 km new road link, largely over sea with two major bridges, forming the basis for subsequent alliance procurement and detailed design of the fixed link between Hailuoto and the mainland.
