DELAYED +3yr (May 2026): FAB Link has not reached FID and the 11 February 2026 joint Ofgem-CRE statement concluded that the conditions are not met for either regulator to grant approval for a new GB-France interconnector. The regulators committed to a joint in-depth study expected to advance within the next one to two years, after which a fresh approval cycle and procurement of HVDC cables and converters would be needed. A 2026 onshore construction start (sourced from an offshore-energy.biz article dated June 2023) is no longer plausible. Pushing to 2028 year-precision as a best estimate; confidence and likelihood lowered. --- Construction of the FAB Link high-voltage DC interconnector between Exeter in the UK and Menuel in Cotentin, France, is planned to start in 2026 as part of a project involving about 220 kilometres of cable and recognised by the EU as a Project of Common Interest.
