On 17 February 2022, the Channel Tunnel Intergovernmental Commission and the relevant national safety authorities approved the ElecLink project, allowing the final testing phase of the 1,000 MW HVDC interconnector to commence ahead of its planned mid‑2022 entry into service between Folkestone in the UK and Peuplingues in France. This regulatory go‑ahead cleared the way for full system tests prior to commercial operation.
