SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission awarded a £2bn (over €2.3bn) HVDC cable supply contract to Prysmian Group on 2 February 2026, confirming the preferred-bidder outcome announced in September 2025. The contract covers manufacture and delivery of over 640 km of cable for the 2 GW EGL4 link: 530 km of subsea HVDC cable across the North Sea between Kinghorn (Fife) and a joint EGL3/EGL4 landfall at Anderby Creek (Lincolnshire), plus over 116 km of underground onshore cable from the landfall to Walpole B substation (Norfolk). Cable operating voltage is 525 kV. Prysmian's Port of Middlesbrough marine base, supported by more than 100 UK suppliers (over 40% in the North East), will deliver the submarine cable. The award is part of a broader £3bn supply chain package alongside Siemens Energy's two converter stations contract awarded 30 March 2026.
