NKT was awarded turnkey orders on 15 December 2022 by OKEA ASA and Equinor Energy AS for two high-voltage AC power cable systems for the Draugen and Njord electrification projects on the Norwegian continental shelf. For the Draugen power-from-shore connection, NKT's scope covers the complete turnkey delivery including design, manufacture and installation of a 123/145 kV HVAC offshore power cable system approximately 150 km long, running from the Åfjord municipality coastline at the Tensio Straum transformer station to the Draugen platform in the Norwegian Sea. The cable was manufactured at NKT's facility in Karlskrona, Sweden, and installed using NKT's cable-laying vessel during 2024, with installation completed in December 2024 in accordance with the project plan. The combined contract value for both the Draugen and Njord cable systems was approximately EUR 160 million, with cable production commencing in 2023. NKT's turnkey scope also includes system testing and commissioning, with the cable system designed to enable the Draugen platform to receive power from the Norwegian mainland grid and thereby replace existing gas turbine generation, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 200,000 tonnes per year.
