Aker Solutions was selected by OKEA as the main contractor for engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) for the Draugen electrification project on the Norwegian continental shelf. The contract was signed on 7 February 2023 following completion of front-end engineering and design (FEED) work and a Letter of Intent issued in December 2022 alongside the investment decision. Aker Solutions' EPCI scope covers the major modifications required to the existing Draugen offshore platform to enable it to receive high-voltage AC power from shore via the NKT-supplied cable system, replacing the platform's existing gas turbine power generation. The work includes detailed engineering design, procurement of electrical and mechanical equipment, fabrication and construction of platform modifications, offshore installation of new electrical infrastructure on the Draugen concrete gravity-base platform, and hook-up and commissioning. The platform modification works are being executed from Aker Solutions' facilities, with preparatory work at Draugen ongoing and equipment installation on the platform planned from mid-2025. The EPCI contract is a key element of the NOK 7.3 billion combined investment by the Draugen and Njord license partners (OKEA and Equinor) to electrify both fields, targeting a combined CO2 emissions reduction of approximately 330,000 tonnes per year. Project completion is expected by Q1 2028 per OKEA's 2024 integrated report.
