The Doordewind 1 offshore HVDC grid connection, a 2 GW transmission link from the Doordewind Site I wind farm area in the Dutch North Sea to the onshore grid at Eemshaven, is now expected to reach full commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2032. This revised commissioning timeframe reflects updated Dutch government and grid development planning, which moved the completion for Doordewind Site I from an earlier 2031 target to Q4 2032 due to major spatial and permitting challenges along the cable route, particularly the Wadden Sea crossing and the final approach to Eemshaven, within TenneT’s 2 GW offshore grid programme that will ultimately provide two 2 GW HVDC connections for the 4 GW Doordewind zone.
