800 MW ±320 kV HVDC Light export link from DolWin alpha to Dörpen West/Heede, using a 75 km subsea section and 90 km land section of extruded DC cable.
ABB acted as the turnkey HVDC contractor for TenneT on the DolWin1 offshore grid connection. The company deployed its HVDC Light (VSC) technology and was responsible for overall system design and engineering, and for the design, supply and installation of both the offshore and onshore converter stations. ABB also provided the complete HVDC cable system, comprising extruded DC submarine and underground cables transmitting 800 MW at ±320 kV over a 165 km route between the DolWin alpha offshore converter platform and the Dörpen West/Heede onshore converter station. The scope covered development activities (system and cable design) and construction-phase works (manufacture, installation and commissioning of the converter stations and the subsea and land export cables) up to handover to TenneT in 2015.
