On 5 February 2025, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Greek transmission system operator Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) signed a financing agreement worth €1.9 billion to fund the IPTO Dodecanese interconnection, which includes the Rhodes–Karpathos link and will connect the islands of Kos, Rhodes and Karpathos to the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System, eliminating their electrical isolation and enabling more reliable and cleaner power supply with greater integration of renewable energy sources.
