The umbrella project "Interconnection of Cyclades Islands with the National Mainland Interconnected Transmission System" – covering Phases A, B and C, including the Phase B Naxos–Mykonos AC submarine cable – secured European Regional Development Fund support of EUR 138.2 million towards a total investment of about EUR 389.1 million, through the 2007–2013 and 2014–2020 Competitiveness and Innovation operational programmes. This EU grant funding underpins the submarine cable and substation works needed to connect Syros, Paros, Tinos, Mykonos and Naxos to the mainland grid.
