In November 2006, a Greek ministerial decision designated the Cyclades interconnection project, which includes the 150 kV Syros–Paros radial submarine cable of Phase A, as a project of “major importance for the country’s economy.” The decision covered the interconnection of Syros, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos with the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System (HETS) and the strengthening of the Andros–Tinos link, recognising the strategic role of these links in improving reliability and reducing electricity costs on the islands.
