Supplier for Cyclades Interconnection Phase C : Reinforcement of Syros
Turnkey contract within Phase C to supply and install a 150 kV HVAC three‑core submarine power cable with fibre optic element between Lavrio and Syros, route length about 108 km subsea (total project route approx. 109.65 km including landfall).
Nexans SA received a €111 million turnkey contract from Greece’s Independent Power Transmission Operator SA (IPTO/ADMIE) under Phase C of the Cyclades interconnection to design, manufacture and install the second 150 kV HVAC submarine cable link between Lavrio on the mainland and the island of Syros. The scope covers seabed survey, engineering and design, production of a three‑core submarine power cable incorporating a fibre‑optic element at Nexans’ Halden plant in Norway, and offshore installation and protection along the approximately 108 km subsea route in waters up to 300 m deep, using the cable‑laying vessel Skagerrak. The project forms the reinforcement of Syros (Lavrio–Syros II), doubling transmission capacity to the Cyclades, improving security of supply and enabling greater integration of renewable generation, with commissioning targeted for 2020.
