Asso.subsea was awarded a subcontract by Nexans Norway A/S to deliver the nearshore protection, landfall and burial works for the second 150 kV HVAC Lavrio-Syros submarine cable installed during 2019-2020 under Phase C of the Cyclades Interconnection. The scope covered the full ~108 km subsea route between Lavrion (Attica) and Syros and explicitly included mobilization, pre-excavation onshore and nearshore/shallow waters, pre-lay mattress installation, pre-trenching to offshore/deep waters on the Syros side up to 100 m water depth, post-lay burial operations on the Lavrio side up to 100 m water depth, and landing assistance at both landfalls. Asso deployed a multi-vessel fleet for the campaign including the Ariadne DP III cable-laying vessel, the Aethra DP II trenching support vessel, the Astrea DP II multipurpose support vessel and the Alcyone shallow-water support vessel, alongside its AssoTrencher IV Mk9 and AssoTrencher V Mk3 mechanical trenchers. The protection works applied across approximately 3.5 km of pre-lay and 5.5 km of post-lay trenching at depths of 0.5-2.0 m, with around 2 km of post-lay jetting and 2,645 m of pre-lay eductor-jetting; pre-lay mattresses (85 m) and cement-bag installations (60 m) supplemented mechanical burial where required. The work was a critical enabler of the Phase C commissioning achieved in October 2020.
