"design, manufacture and install a 335km subsea high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable system" providing one 500 MW HVDC subsea cable system to form half of the 1,000 MW bipole interconnection between Attica and Crete.
Nexans was contracted by Ariadne Interconnection S.P.S.A to deliver one of the two 500 MW, 500 kV HVDC submarine cable systems for the Crete–Attica interconnector, forming half of the 1,000 MW bipole link. Under a contract valued at about €220 million, Nexans is responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of a 335 km subsea mass‑impregnated HVDC cable, including integrated fiber optics, running from the Attica region to the Heraklion area of Crete at water depths down to 1,200 m. The turnkey scope covers cable production at Nexans’ facilities and offshore installation using its dedicated cable‑laying vessels and trenching with the Capjet system, with project execution over roughly 35 months and commissioning targeted around 2023.
