150 kV HVAC power cable connection between Capri and Torre Annunziata comprising about 30 km of submarine route and 1 km of land cable, supplied and installed by Prysmian Group for Terna.
Prysmian Group was awarded a contract worth around €70 million by Terna Rete Italia S.p.A. in September 2013 to provide the Capri–Torre Annunziata 150 kV HVAC power link. The turnkey scope covered the supply and installation of a three‑core submarine and land cable system comprising approximately 30 km of submarine route and 1 km of land cable, linking the Italian mainland at Torre Annunziata to Terna’s low‑impact power station on Capri’s Gasto Ecological Island. Prysmian manufactured the cables at its Arco Felice plant near Naples and used its owned cable‑laying vessel Giulio Verne for marine installation. The contract also encompassed related network components, protection of the marine cable, optical fibre telecommunications and temperature‑monitoring systems, and specialist civil works at both landfalls. The project forms part of Terna’s Progetto Insula programme to strengthen Capri’s power supply and reduce environmental impact, with completion scheduled by 2015.
