At the end of September 2020, the second 150 kV AC undersea cable between Capri and Sorrento and the new Sorrento substation entered operation, closing the Capri–Torre Annunziata–Sorrento electricity ring in which the Capri–Torre Annunziata link forms the first section; this bidirectional 160 MW connection enabled Capri to be fully integrated into the national grid and supported the decommissioning of the island’s diesel power plant with substantial CO2 and cost savings.
