Two 67 km, 220 kV HVAC export cables forming the 700 MW Borssele Beta offshore grid connection between the Borssele Beta offshore substation and the onshore Borssele substation, supplied as part of the Alpha/Beta export cable project together with a 7 km, 66 kV Alpha–Beta interconnector cable.
NKT Cables supplied the high-voltage submarine cable systems for TenneT’s 700 MW Borssele Beta offshore grid connection under a consortium contract with Boskalis’ subsidiary VBMS. Following an option attached to the earlier Borssele Alpha award, TenneT confirmed the Beta scope in late October 2017. For Borssele Beta, NKT manufactured approximately 134 km of 220 kV HVAC export cable for two 67 km offshore cable circuits linking the Borssele Beta offshore substation to the onshore grid near the existing Borssele 380 kV substation. In addition, within the same Alpha/Beta export cable project, NKT manufactured around 7 km of 66 kV cable for the interconnector between the Borssele Alpha and Beta offshore substations. The cables were fabricated at NKT’s Cologne factory and transported by barge to the Netherlands for offshore installation by Boskalis/VBMS during the 2018–2020 construction period.
