DELAYED +1yr (May 2026): Feb-2026 Danish political agreement presupposes overall commissioning in 2034–2036. If COD is now expected mid-2030s, completing offshore cable installation by end-2033 is tight; shifting completion to 2034 to preserve a realistic sequence (cable completion ahead of 2034–2036 commissioning/COD) while acknowledging 50Hertz still states commissioning 2034 for the German leg. DELAYED +4yr (Apr 2026): The 2022 Swedish EEZ assessment envisaged completing HVDC cable construction within a 2025–2030 window, which led to our 2030 completion projection. Updated official timelines are later: 50Hertz’s BEI interconnector page (Jan 2026) gives planned commissioning of the Bornholm–Germany 2 GW link in 2034, and EnergyWatch (Feb 2026) says Energy Island Bornholm is expected ready in 2034. With FID and construction slipping, finishing offshore/EEZ cable works by end‑2033 better matches a 2034 COD. --- The environmental assessment for the cable system in the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone states that construction of each HVDC cable system for Energy Island Bornholm is expected to last up to three years per cable within the period 2025–2030, implying that installation of the planned cable systems should be completed by 2030.
