In October 2014, EDF Energies Nouvelles acquired the rights to develop the Blyth Offshore Demonstrator project, including seabed rights from The Crown Estate and associated land rights and meteorological data from the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. This transfer of development and land rights covered the offshore test site and related onshore areas needed for the export cable route and substation connection at Blyth.
