On 29 May 2020, the European Commission issued its opinion on Ofgem’s proposed certification of TC Beatrice OFTO Limited, noting that the objective of unbundling is to remove conflicts of interest between generators/suppliers and transmission system operators, agreeing that TC Beatrice’s US- and UK-based generation interests did not create such a conflict in this case, and concluding that refusal of certification would be disproportionate provided Ofgem continued to monitor future generation projects.
