JD-Contractor A/S, a Danish subsea contractor, installed the new electricity supply cable to Anholt Island in the summer of 2014 under contract to the Danish transmission system operator Energinet.dk. The link replaced the small Kattegat island's diesel-based generation with grid power drawn from the adjacent Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, connecting Anholt's roughly 140 residents to the Jutland electricity grid and allowing the island to be supplied almost entirely by renewable energy. JD-Contractor's scope covered the offshore installation of the Prysmian three-core 3x150 mm2 cable running from the substation on the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm to Anholt Island. The works comprised pre-trenching, rock removal, PLGR, survey, cable transport, pull-in/pull-up, cable installation and post-burial by means of jetting. Despite a very short planning period between contract signature and the start of works, the installation was completed satisfactorily, on schedule and within budget. The contract value and exact dates were not disclosed in the available source.
