Transmission system operator TenneT granted Amrumbank West offshore wind farm pre-qualification to provide 60 MW of system-stabilising secondary reserve (automatic frequency restoration reserve) to the German power grid. This regulatory approval enables RWE, via its Amrumbank West project with 80 Siemens Gamesa turbines totaling 302 MW, to participate in daily balancing energy auctions from the first quarter of 2025, allowing the wind farm’s output to be reduced by up to 60 MW on request to help maintain the grid frequency at 50 Hz.
