LMR Drilling GmbH is a special civil engineering company focused on controllable horizontal directional drilling (HDD) for trenchless pipeline and cable installation. Based in Oldenburg and part of the Ludwig Freytag Group, it has operated internationally for more than 30 years in traversing natural obstacles and structures with pipelines of all types. The company’s corporate purpose is the execution of horizontal boreholes and the development of further application areas using HDD technology. Its service range covers crossing structures, cable ducts, ducting systems, high‑pressure lines and offshore crossings, including classic river crossings and very long and large crossings with drill lengths up to 6,000 m and borehole diameters up to 2,000 mm. LMR Drilling combines drilling execution with frontend feasibility studies, crossing design and constructability reviews.
The company has experience from more than 1,000 crossings up to 4,600 m in length and pipe diameters up to 56" and developed the large pilot hole concept in 2001, a technique that underpinned Pipeline Industry Guild land‑based pipeline technology awards in 2005 and 2006. Its four HDD rigs, with 100 t, 250 t and 450 t capacity and pulling forces up to 4,500 kN, are complemented by recycling units, mud mix tanks and high‑pressure pumps that are also available for rental. LMR Drilling delivers outfall, landfall and conventional drilled crossings to a global market, working closely with consultants, contractors and clients and maintaining an excellent safety, quality and environmental record. Certified to EN ISO 9001, EN ISO 14001, EN ISO 45001 and SCCp and a member of the DCA Europe HDD association, it has a substantial reference list in gas transmission, LNG connections, CO₂ and power grid projects, including numerous offshore wind cable landfalls and subsea cable crossings for European transmission system operators.
