International Marine and Dredging Consultants (IMDC) is an international engineering and consultancy company specialised in natural waters, including rivers, estuaries, coastal areas, ports and marine waters. Founded in Belgium in 1982 and based in Antwerp, it employs over 100 specialists who provide water-related engineering and advisory services to national and international public authorities, port and waterway managers, international organisations such as the European Community and the World Bank, engineering offices and marine contractors. IMDC is a company of Tractebel, part of the ENGIE Group, and draws on Tractebel’s wider engineering capabilities for large port, lock and energy infrastructure projects.
IMDC’s activities span marine and estuarine systems, dredging, coastal engineering, port and offshore engineering, blue energy, river basin and water resources management, waterways and inland navigation, hydraulic design, environmental studies, monitoring and in‑situ measurements. The company delivers feasibility studies, numerical and physical hydrodynamic and morphological modelling, flood risk assessment, coastal protection and sediment management strategies, subsea cable and scour engineering, and design support for ports, offshore installations and offshore energy terminals. It has supported offshore wind and broader blue energy projects since the first Belgian offshore wind developments, acting as owner’s engineer and marine consultant across permitting, environmental and social impact assessments, metocean and geotechnical campaigns, layout optimisation, construction follow-up, and operations and maintenance support.
IMDC maintains an ISO‑9001 certified quality system and systematically expands its knowledge base through research and innovation in collaboration with European universities and research entities. Its work places strong emphasis on climate resilience, nature‑based and ecosystem‑services‑oriented solutions, decarbonisation of water infrastructure, digital water tools and data platforms, and long-term, environmentally sound management of coasts, rivers and marine resources worldwide.
