Cable One was built in 1976 by Goole Shipbuilders in Goole, U.K., and originally sailed as Clarkwood until 1990 and then as Grampian Wood until 2000 before taking its current name. It is now owned by JD Crafts A/S and operated by JD-Contractor A/S, sailing under the Denmark International Register. The vessel’s class society is Registro Italiano Navale. Technically, Cable One is a cable laying and offshore diving support vessel equipped with DP1 and a four-point mooring system using four warping winches for precise positioning. It can load up to 250 tonnes of submarine fibre cables in an inboard coil tank and has a weather deck of about 50 m² that can accommodate up to three 20-foot containers. The vessel is outfitted with an A-frame rated at 25 tonnes SWL with a 10 tonne towing winch, a deck crane rated 1.7 tonnes at 16 m outreach, and offers accommodation for about 15 persons including crew and passengers. Operationally, Cable One is specialized in cable laying, installation and repairs, subsea surveys, ROV work and offshore diving, with permanently installed diving systems including treatment and decompression facilities. It is described as capable of worldwide operations, though recent AIS and port-call data show frequent use around Danish and Baltic ports such as Thyborøn and Gdansk, indicating a strong focus on North Sea and Baltic subsea cable and diving projects.
