Normand Clipper is a VS 4125 offshore construction and cable-working vessel built in 2001, with the hull constructed at Maritim SY in Gdansk and completion by Ulstein Verft AS as yard number 258. Solstad’s documentation lists build years 2001/2005, and Solstad reports that in 2022 the vessel underwent a conversion back to a dedicated cable layer role. Solstad Rederi AS is recorded as the registered owner, while Global Marine Group has chartered the vessel since 2020 and has exercised a purchase option, with transfer of ownership scheduled for 1 June 2026. The ship is classed with notation +1A1, SF, E0, DK(+), DYNPOS-AUTR, TMON, CRANE, HELDK, BWME(C) and operates under the Norwegian flag. Technically, Normand Clipper is equipped as a cable-laying, repair and trenching platform, with substantial cable storage capacity, heavy offshore cranes, A-frame, tow winch and DP2 station-keeping to support complex subsea operations. In recent years it has supported Global Marine Group’s worldwide subsea cable-laying and repair activities, positioning it primarily in the global subsea cable market serving telecommunications and power interconnection projects.
Diesel-electric propulsion with two MaK 9M32 9-cylinder and two MaK 8M32 8-cylinder main engines driving generators (total electrical power about 16,320 kW / 21,922 bhp) which supply two electric propulsion motors on controllable pitch propellers.
