Cable Lay Vessel
Owner: Prysmian Group
Also known as: Cable Enterprise, Smit Anambas

Cable Enterprise was built in 2001 by Esprit Engineering in Batam, Indonesia, initially entering service under different ownership before later joining Prysmian’s fleet. Prysmian Powerlink Services Ltd, based in the UK, is recorded as the vessel’s owner, and the unit was significantly upgraded and converted in 2015 to enhance its capabilities as a DP2 cable laying barge. Technically, the vessel is classed with the American Bureau of Shipping with the notation +A1 Barge DPS-2, reflecting its dynamic positioning capability and barge configuration. The 2015 conversion focused on transforming the unit from a moored barge into a self-propelled DP2 cable layer with substantial installed power, dedicated cable carousels and equipment suitable for simultaneous lay and burial operations, while retaining the ability to ground out in shallow waters. Market-wise, Cable Enterprise is positioned within Prysmian’s installation fleet to serve submarine power cable projects, particularly offshore wind farm interconnections and medium-voltage inter-array systems in shallow to moderate water depths. It is typically deployed in European waters such as the North Sea and English Channel, as well as selected international projects where beach landings and shallow-water operations are required.
DP2 cable laying vessel with approximately 8 MW of installed power, allowing autonomous station keeping in harsh conditions. Propulsion and positioning are provided by 4 Wärtsilä engines driving a thruster package comprising 2 x Voith Schneider 2.4 MW 360° rotating thrusters, 2 x Wärtsilä 1 MW retractable azimuth thrusters and 2 x Wärtsilä 1.2 MW transverse thrusters. A Wärtsilä NOx-reducing system is fitted to all four engines, achieving a 75% reduction in NOx from base levels. In addition, 3.8 MW of generated power is available for cable equipment, back deck and hotel loads.
