On 28 July 2023, IPTO energised and launched the upgraded 150 kV submarine high‑voltage interconnection between Kyllini on the Greek mainland and the island of Zakynthos, marking first power flow on the new Zakynthos–Kyllini replacement cable. The approximately 23 km, three‑core XLPE cable with optical fibre and 200 MVA capacity, supplied and installed on a turnkey basis by Hellenic Cables/Fulgor, replaced the ageing early‑1980s link and immediately began covering the island’s increased loads at the height of the tourist season.
