Contracted by Xlinks First to conduct a comprehensive marine site investigation of the offshore route including geophysical, geotechnical and environmental surveys; reconnaissance 2022-2023, comprehensive corridor survey 2024; GEO Ocean V/VII/III vessels used.
GEOxyz was contracted by Xlinks to deliver a comprehensive marine site investigation for the Morocco–UK HVDC subsea cable corridor. The firm acquired geophysical data (multibeam echosounder, sidescan sonar, magnetometer and sub‑bottom profiler), undertook nearshore/topographic surveys at landfalls, and carried out geotechnical sampling and environmental (benthic) surveys. Reconnaissance surveys were completed in 2022–2023 and a phased, higher‑resolution corridor survey programme was executed in 2023–2024 using GEO Ocean vessels (geophysical surveying in the Bay of Biscay and along the Spanish coast; geotechnical and environmental sampling planned on GEO Ocean III). The work supported route characterisation, crossing‑point investigations and provided data for archaeological assessment and the project EIA. The surveys covered the full offshore route described by the developer (approximately 4,000 km).
